The reviews matter as they will encourage your child to have a conversation about the book, which gives you the parent, the opportunity to touch on all sorts of topics raised (in the under 10’s category, the 10-15 age group may not wish to chat things through which is their prerogative). The most important part of all this is they enjoy reading.
It will also develop the child’s ability to review which is a skill that is likely to be called upon more and more as they get older and is super useful in assimilating information. The more reviews, the more useful the book club becomes in finding top picks, readers favourites and creating a network of children who love to read and feel connected by their shared interest – the love of books.
Sharing their books and reviews will give them a real sense of pride in their review, as they will understand and engage with the fact other children/peers will be reading their review, with interest. And in time, if we become the Go To review site for children’s books it would likely encourage authors to donate books to the club for free. It could also lead to authors visiting participating schools to share their stories, test their latest offerings and receive feedback from a very honest and at times brutal audience.
